About Us- Policies and Proprietors

See our resort FAQ here.

The Betsie Riverside Resort is a family-friendly spot to enjoy the beauty of NW Michigan and some memorable time with friends and loved ones. It’s also our year-round home. In that spirit all of our policies have three goals in mind. We want:

  1. You to enjoy your stay at the BRR.
  2. All other guests to enjoy their stay at the same time.
  3. The next guests to enjoy their stay just as much.

-BRR is a family-friendly resort. If that’s not the vibe you’re looking for, we suggest another property. If your preferred leisure activities have a negative impact on other guests or our property you’ll likely be invited to pursue accommodations elsewhere in the future.

-Quiet hours are from 10pm to 8am. Be a good neighbor; even between 8am-10pm keep it reasonable!

-Drive slowly- errant kiddos and distracted fishermen may be crossing the roads.

-Follow basic camper etiquette- don’t cut through someone else’s space, don’t park in someone else’s numbered spot, leave everything cleaner than you found it.

-Respect the environment and people around you. You may have wi-fi, but we’re still surrounded by nature- adhere to the LNT (leave no trace) philosophy.

-Respect the property. Wood & paper ONLY in the fire-pits; toilet paper & human waste ONLY down the toilets. Adhere to posted guidelines on the property.

-Plan to have visitors? Make sure they check-in at the front desk and that they too abide by all resort policies.

-Remember that you are responsible for the behavior and safety of your kiddos at all times.

-Place trash and cigarette butts in the appropriate receptacles (NOT the fire rings) and make sure the lid is secured. Wildlife is cool, but not when it’s strewing trash across the campground or waking you up in the middle of the night.

What we don’t allow at BRR: smoking in any building, pets on the property, firearms (if you mistakenly brought it, leave it locked in your vehicle), fireworks, and, of course, illegal activity of any kind.

Yes, we’re originally from Texas… Indeed, it is pretty cold up here in NW Michigan, but let us regale you with tales of 110 degree July-August days and skin scorched by the leather of your car driver’s seat! We know we still have a lot to learn about the mitten state. We’re went from barbecue and Mexican food to pasties & Boston Coolers, Longhorn and Aggie football to UofM & Michigan State, Willie Nelson and Stevie Ray Vaughn to Motown & Eminem, but we’re happy to be here. Whether a troll or a yooper- ya’ll have a beautiful state… And while we’ll miss the expansive grandeur and diversity of a state large enough and varied enough to be its own country, we’re excited about the snowy road ahead. Luckily Chris spent his freshman year of college in Ashland, WI on the Chequamegon Bay of Lake Superior, so cold weather isn’t a completely foreign concept to us… but as Michigan-native friend wryly proclaimed, “It’s not- Have you spent a winter up north, it’s- Have you spent ten winters up north?”

Chris grew up camping, and we both love to travel, camp, hike, and enjoy nature. After careers in education, and with a son about to graduate college, we decided to head north. Chris’ grandfather ran a canoe rental business on the Brazos River in Texas all of his childhood, so when Barb and John Hanmer made the Riverside Resort available we felt it was the place for us. So, “howdy” (most Texans don’t really say that much, but it’s expected I guess). Welcome to the Riverside!
